School Overview
The US Coast Guard Academy is located in New London, Connecticut. It is a 4 year college that trains officers for the United States Coast Guard. The school is best known for its rigorous athletics and academic programs. Individuals accepted into the programs get free lodging and tuition. Currently, the military school has a capacity of 1200 undergraduate students and a teacher to student ratio of 1:8.

To be accepted into the school, the admissions counselors consider your academic records and your athletic achievements. Students who have completed a community service while in high school have an advantage. Annually, over 5,000 students apply but only 300 are selected.

There are a total of 8 academic majors offered in this military school. The main ones are management, government, operations research as well as computer analysis.

What to Expect
Every student in the US Coast Guard Academy is required to perform physical training daily. A physical fitness test is also administered every semester. To remain enrolled, the students must pass the physical tests. Military training is also a requirement for the cadets over the summer. Most of the military training is conducted on the US Coast Guard ships. Candidates also learn how to fire a weapon. Of the 300 students admitted annually, about 200 graduate.
