The Oak Ridge Military Academy is a college prep military school located in Northwestern Guilford County in North Carolina. The school is named after the Oak Ridge town. The military school was established by the Society of Friends in 1852. At the time, the school was founded as a finishing school for boys. The school was led by Martin Holt and Professor J. Allen Holt until 1914. Under this leadership, the school was ranked the best college prep schools in the whole of North Carolina. It not only excels academically but also in sports.
The Oak Ridge Military Academy became an all-male military school in 1929. Since then until 1967, the military school doubled as a junior college. It was not until 1972 that the school became the first to admit female cadets. In the United States, the Oak Ridge Military Academy is the third oldest military schools. It is now a coeducational, college prep military boarding school. It serves students in grades 6 to 12.
